A great way to get people to read your book and write a review is if you offer if for free. Now keep in mind that you can run your free book promo for a certain period of time. This way, you have people reading your book and then it enables them to post a review.
The trick with reviews being posted on Amazon or Smashwords, someone has to purchase the book before a review can be posted. By allowing people to have your book for free, then the reader is in a position to post a review.
Again, the great thing with Smashwords is you can post your book for free for how ever long you like. Basically, a promotional period.
Typically, I find you will receive more free downloads of your book if you connect with bloggers who are currently reviewing your book. When they post the review, they can include a coupon code to download your book for free. You'll find readers are more enticed to download your book after reading a review from bloggers they follow.
